Crime branch officials in Navi Mumbai have arrested a 39-year-old chain-snatcher who operated in Navi Mumbai and its peripheral areas, and recovered 175 grams of stolen gold jewellery as well as a two-wheeler, collectively worth Rs 5.34 lakh.

With his arrest, the police said they have solved as many as 11 chain-snatching cases registered across Navi Mumbai and Mumbai.

The accused has been identified as Sadique Jaffri, a resident of Devri Pada, Mumbra.

“Acting on a tip-off, officials from the crime branch’s unit 2 laid in wait at Kalamboli circle on May 17 and caught him when he was passing by on a two-wheeler,” said Tushar Doshi, deputy commissioner of police (crime).

Just a day earlier, on May 16, Jaffri and an accomplice had followed a woman at Khanda Colony and snatched a mangalsutra and gold chain from her neck.
