Two dead, one hurt as trucks collide on ‘slippery’ Western Express Highway in Mumbai

One of the drivers lost control of the vehicle as the road was slippery, said police. His truck overturned and was rammed into by the second truck

Two people were killed and one seriously injured after two trucks collided on the Western Express Highway in Mumbai late on Friday.

The trucks had transported fish to Crawford Market and were returning to Karnataka. One of the drivers lost control of the vehicle as the road was slippery, said police. His truck overturned in the middle of the road and was rammed into by the second truck from behind.

Two cleaners travelling in the first truck died on the spot, while the fatally injured driver was taken to a nearby hospital with the help of the fire brigade and the Mumbai Police.

A part of the highway was shut so officials could move the truck that had been blocking traffic.

The Samata Nagar police registered a case of accidental death. Investigations are ongoing.
