MIUMBAI: Municipal officials who have been patrolling the city to locate and destroy mosquito breeding sites said getting access to residential and office buildings is tough as these places do not permit them to enter. Around 80% of breeding grounds in the past eight months were recorded in high-rise buildings, they added.

The civic body destroyed 8,946 mosquito breeding sites between January and August, of which 3,872 sites were destroyed in August alone.

Rajan Naringrekar, BMC’s insecticide officer said it was impossible for municipal workers to check every house for breeding sites. “Trays under flower pots and defrost trays are the most common breeding places in houses,” he said.
