MUMBAI : The city’s only farmer producer market received a good response on Sunday, as 80% of the agricultural produce brought was sold out. Farmers claimed that they got a good response and will continue to participate in the market that is organised once a week at Vidhan Bhavan.

Around 34 stalls were set up in the parking lot of Vidhan Bhavan, where 30 tonnes of vegetables were sold. “We are happy about the response we got this time,” said Kondeo Mahapari, a farmer from Satara district. Even consumers appreciated the quality of the vegetables but said the prices needed to be more economical when compared to the retail market.
“Cabbage, cauliflower and brinjal were pricier than the retail market so I didn’t buy it. The state should safeguard the consumers’ interests as they are doing for farmers. The initiative should serve both ends,” said Sachin Nalwade, a buyer.
Bhaskar Patil, assistant general manager of state agriculture marketing board, said, “We are also keeping tab to ensure that the purpose of both farmers and consumers is served.”
