The Chunabhatti police took the decision to exhume the body and sent it for autopsy after receiving a tip-off that the woman was beaten by her relatives, who then buried her in a hurry to cover up their act after she succumbed to her injuries while recuperating. Julekha Rehmatulla Khan, a resident of Gaffar Seth chawl at Qureshi Nagar in Kurla (West), was rushed by her neighbour to a local clinic on September 11. The doctor she was being treated by holds a B.A.M.S. degree, the police said.

Cops claimed despite her serious condition, the doctor neither informed the police nor did he advice her family members to shift her to a better-equipped medical facility.

He allegedly did not even recommend a post-mortem and issued a death certificate ascertaining cardio-respiratory failure as the cause of her death, following which she was buried on the morning of September 10 .
