FIR registered against man for cooking up cowhide bag incident
MUMBAI: The Amboli police found that creative director Barun Kashyap — who had filed a complaint against cow vigilantes for harassment for carrying a cowhide bag
MUMBAI: The Amboli police found that creative director Barun Kashyap — who had filed a complaint against cow vigilantes for harassment for carrying a cowhide bag on August 19 — had lied to them and filed an FIR against him. Kashyap has confessed he lied, said a police officer from Amboli police on condition of anonymity.

On Sunday, Kashyap did not respond to phone calls and SMSes from HT. However, a TV celebrity close to Kashyap took to Twitter and clarified that the director was shocked by the police action against him and he stands by his complaint.
A team led by ACP Arun Chavan, senior police inspector Bharat Gaikwad and assistant police inspector Daya Nayak are conducting a detailed probe and found that Kashyap had cooked up a story.
Kashyap has been booked under Sections 153A (promoting enmity between groups) and 182(B) (use of lawful power of a public servant to injure or annoy any person) of the Indian Penal Code.
In his complaint, Kashyap had said that he had taken a rickshaw to go to office from his Andheri residence. The driver had argued with him suspecting he was carrying a bag made of cow skin. He had stopped the rickshaw midway at a temple and called two more people to check his bag. They had threatened and left him, Kashyap had said in his complaint.
However, the police cross-checked the information with their informers and also questioned over 50 rickshaw drivers but got no leads. They also checked CCTV cameras on the route and his mobile tower location to no avail. Their probe pointed that Kashyap was lying.
