IMD predicts heavy rainfall till Tuesday

MUMBAI: Heavy rain in Mumbai continued for a second day in a row with the weather station at Colaba surpassing its seasonal average on Saturday morning.

MUMBAI: Heavy rain in Mumbai continued for a second day in a row with the weather station at Colaba surpassing its seasonal average on Saturday morning.

IMD officials said widespread heavy rain is expected to continue till Tuesday for Mumbai and surrounding areas.

Till 5.30pm on Saturday, the Colaba weather station recorded 2013 mm of rainfall since the beginning of the monsoon season in June. The average rainfall for Colaba for the four-month cycle is 1933mm.

On Thursday, the weather station at Santacruz, representative of Mumbai, had surpassed the annual average rainfall.

Till 5.30pm on Saturday, Santacruz recorded 2401.4mm rain as against 2258mm, which is the annual mean rainfall for Mumbai.

Between 8.30am Friday and 8.30am Saturday, the city recorded three digit rainfall figures at 104.2mm for Colaba.
