Man held for stealing actor’s Mercedes

MUMBAI: A man who was wanted for the theft of a Mercedes, was arrested from a pool parlour in Vasai on Sunday.

The man, Aftab Anjum Patel, from Mira Road, had several charges slapped on him for attempt to murder, land grab, illegal possession of arms, and other crimes by the Mira Road police.

He was booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

He had been evading the police since February and was wanted for the stealing the Mercedes of an actor, Sahil Khan, in Charkhop in October 2015.

On October 10, 2015, Patel had stolen Sahil Khan’s Mercedes from Charkhop after paying a token amount of Rs 50,000 to the actor’s sister for it.

On the pretext of a second test drive, Patel took the keys from the actor’s driver Ansari and vanished with the car! A case of theft was lodged with the Charkhop police and in December 2015, the SUV was found, but with all its internal accessories, including the stereo system and high end speakers, missing.

Aftab’s father Anjum,49, cousin Hashir Tatya Patel, 19, brother Aman, 19, Danish Querishi, Sajid Shah and others are charged with organised crime and also for the assault of one Pesh Nawaz Khan.
