Speeding dumper crushes garment trader, 55, to death in Sakinaka
MUMBAI: A 55-year-old businessman was crushed to death by a speeding dumper in Sakinaka on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Jalil Ahmed Khalil Ahmed Shaikh, a garment trader who operated from the area.
An officer from Sakinaka police station said the incident occurred at 3.15pm at Udaynagar Junction on Saki Vihar Road, in which Shaikh’s head got crushed under the dumper.
It was an on-duty traffic police constable who rushed the garment trader to Rajawadi hospital, where he was declared dead.
Other officers said Shaikh was well-known amongst the residents of his locality as a helpful chap.
They said a manhunt has been launched to nab the dumper driver, who fled the spot instead of helping Shaikh.
Cops have seized the vehicle and booked its driver under sections 279 and 304 A of the IPC for rash and negligent driving, and sections 134 A and B of the Motor Vehicles Act for escaping from the spot without rendering help.
