11/7 blasts: IM co-founder’s testimony being recorded

The special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court on Wednesday started recording the deposition of co-founder of terror outfit, Indian Mujahideen (IM), Mohammed Sadiq Israr Sheikh, in the July 2006 serial train blasts case.
The special MCOCA judge Yatin Shinde had on Saturday allowed the defence advocates’ appeal that Sheikh be examined as a defence witness in the case because of the confessional statement given by him in 2008.
Defence lawyers want to examine Sheikh along with Arif Badruddin and Ansar Ahmed — the trio was arrested in 2008 for their alleged role in various blasts across India between 2005 and 2008. In their confession statement, they had admitted that IM was responsible for the blasts since 2005.
Sheikh’s deposition will continue on Thursday. After his deposition, Badruddin and Ahmed will be called in court to record their testimonies as defence witnesses.
