Santacruz appears to be a prime target location for robberies with six incidents being reported in the past three days, making residents of the area extremely wary.
On Thursday, around 11 am, three masked men barged into the office of Affable Fisheries Private Limited in Khira Nagar, Santacruz (west) and made away with Rs50,000 in cash.
According to the police, the owner of the office, 55-year-old Rupa Patel, and three employees were threatened with toy pistols following which the men tied up Patel’s hands with her stole and made away with the cash that was kept in the drawer. The police further said that the accused had asked the three employees to stand in the corner while they were stealing the cash.
Patel, a resident of Vile Parle, has a total of five employees working for her company, said the police. The police believe the motive behind the robbery to be personal enmity. “The accused repeatedly said that that of late, the victim’s brother had been acting too smart,” said Pratap Dighavkar, deputy commissioner of police (zone 9).
The police further said that Patel’s brother had a tiff with some men in the society few months’ back, which could also be the motive behind the robbery.
The security guard of Cosmos building – the building that houses Patel’s company – has also aroused police suspicion.
“There is only one security guard in the building who did not report to work on the day of the robbery. We have called him for questioning,” said Dighavkar.
The police have also detained Patel’s former driver who was fired for irregularities in his work.
The police have not ruled out the possibility of an insider being involved in the crime.“We have got some important leads in the case and will apprehend the culprits very soon,” added Dighavkar.
The police have registered a case of robbery against three unknown accused.
