A woman arrested in a cheating case on Friday allegedly committed suicide inside a room in a police station in suburban Goregaon, police said.

Swapna Salve, 25, was arrested by Gujarat Police on March 31 and handed over to Goregaon (East) police station on Thursday in connection with a cheating case.

She was found hanging to a ceiling fan with a dupatta in a room where she was kept for questioning, police said.

"A woman police constable accompanying her went out in the morning for about 10 minutes. When the constable returned, Swapna was found hanging to a ceiling fan," they said.

She was rushed to civic-run Bhagwati hospital where she was declared dead, they added.
