According to the weathermen, the temperature is expected to rise further over the next couple of days.

Till Thursday, temperatures in the city were normal owing to stable wind directions and moisture levels. However, the humidity increased after rain in parts of Rajasthan and Gujarat. Met officials also observed a change in wind directions, which contributed to the temperature rise.

“The wind direction was north-westerly. It has now become northerly, bringing hot and dry winds from north and central India. The humidity that had shot up owing to overcast conditions has reduced due to hot and dry winds and hence Mumbaiites felt an accentuated heat effect,” said Ajay Kumar, meteorologist, western region, India Meterological Department (IMD).

According to IMD officials, the temperatures would remain high for the next 48 hours with the maximum temperature expected to be 36 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature 24 degrees Celsius.
