At least seven vehicles were involved in a pile-up on the Palm Beach Road on Tuesday morning in an attempt to save a snake but the reptile was killed by local residents soon after.

“The heat emanating from the road, seemed to be too much for the snake that was wriggling and couldn’t cross in time,” said traffic constable Rajnikant Pagare.
“An Indica that was heading towards Nerul, applied sudden brakes to ensure it did not run over the snake. Six other vehicles, including a Honda CRV, Bolero, Santros, Fiesta, rammed into each other,” added Pagare.
Some of the injured were rushed to the nearby municipal hospital in Vashi, where they were discharged after treatment.
“Some people got minor bruises. But the cars, including mine, have been badly damaged,” said Pushkar Singh, a resident of Nerul, who was driving a Santro.
The police towed away the damaged vehicles from the busy Palm Beach road.
