MUMBAI: Close to 550 air travellers comprising elderly people, women and children who left in two IndiGo flights each from Pune and Mumbai on Sunday evening, reached Delhi in the wee hours of Monday, courtesy the massive flight disruption caused by erratic weather in the national capital.
Fliers on flight 6E138 from Mumbai saw the longest wait to reach Delhi. The flight, which left Mumbai at 6.40 pm, got diverted to Jaipur and finally reached its destination at 2.26am on Monday.
IndiGo, in a statement, said, “We understand the inconvenience of our passengers. In such situations, our operation-control centre evaluates multiple options keeping in mind various parameters such as anticipated weather, air traffic congestion, flight duty time limitations of operating crew, availability of supporting airport infrastructure, passenger convenience and most importantly, safety of the overall operations.”
Around 40 flights bound to Delhi, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flight, were diverted to other airports.
