Ombale played a pivotal role in apprehending the only surviving terrorist, Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, at the cost of his life.

The civic body has decided to set up the statue of assistant police sub-inspector, Tukaram Ombale, at Girgaum Chowpatty. The statue will be installed before the anniversary of the attacks on November 26 this year.

Additional municipal commissioner Manisha Mhaiskar said, “The proposal to set up the statue has got an in-principle approval by the municipal commissioner.”

Mhaiskar added that the decision on the exact location and the size of the statue was yet to be taken.

The final decision will be taken after a discussion with the committee appointed by Bombay high court for the beautification and preservation of Girgaum Chowpatty.
