The new notification by the ministry of environment and forest (MoEF) on plastic waste (management and handling) says retailers shouldn’t give carry bags free to consumers.

Viren Shah, president of FRTWA, said, “How can the authorities put the onus of minimising the use of plastic bags on us? Instead of upgrading their machinery to manage plastic waste, they are bringing out absurd laws.” They have also written to the BMC and the MoEF, registering their firm objection to this point in the notification.
