According to Darshana Gosalia, Aiya approached her saying that as he was working on a flat on the floor above hers, he needed to check her flat for leakages. He also gave her a phone number, which he claimed was the flat owner’s. When Gosalia gave a call on the number, posing as the owner, Aiya discussed the renovation work with her.

“Two days later, Aiya told Gosalia that he needed some money to accept the delivery of the construction material in the the owner’s absence. Taking Rs10,000 from Gosalia, he fled,” said an official from Malad police station.

On confronting the flat owner, Gosalia learnt that she had been conned and filed a complaint with the Malad police.
