The duo was rushed to Bhabha hospital after a BMW rammed into their bike at Perry Cross Road at Bandra (west) around 3.30am. They were later shifted to Holy Spirit hospital at Bandra. The driver of the BMW, Hamza Patel, who was driving the owner’s son, has been held.

Samad Shaikh, senior inspector, Bandra police station, said: “Patel, who was on the wheels, tested negative for alcohol. He was, however, booked for rash and negligent driving. He was presented before the court that granted him bail on Saturday.”

When questioned if Hamza Patel was behind the wheel when the accident took place, Shaikh said that it was indeed Patel who caused the accident as within few minutes of the incident, policemen reached the spot. “As a result of the impact, the air bags in the car got inflated and hence it would not have been possible for the driver and the owner to exchange places,” added Shaikh.

Rohit Nair and his female colleague, who work at a hotel in Bandra, were returning from a party when the incident occurred.
