Ramesh and Meenakshi Patel have claimed that the body is of their daughter Jagruti, who was kidnapped from her Shiv Shastri Nagar residence in Cuffe Parade a month ago. Final confirmation will be obtained once the DNA report becomes available.

“I have not seen the body yet. But we have identified her on the basis of her clothes and the black thread around the child’s neck,” said Ramesh Patel.

Patel, a seafood supplier, had lodged a kidnapping complaint on October 20. “We tried our best to find the girl. Ramesh and Meenakshi Patel have confirmed that the body is of their daughter,” said Cherring Dorjee, deputy commissioner of police (zone I).

The hospital has sent samples of the body for DNA analysis and viscera to the Forensic Science Laboratory. “As the body was decomposed, we could not ascertain if the child was physically abused. There were injuries on the skull,” he added.
