The CBI also arrested Amit Singh, an employee of the customs house agent (CHA), who used to collect bribes on the officer’s behalf. CBI said the agency received information that appraising officer Mukesh Kumar, posted at Jawaharlal Nehru Customs House (JNCH) in Uran was allegedly collecting Rs1,200 for clearing a 20 feet import and export container and Rs2,400 for a 40 feet container. CBI searched the two following the tip-off.
The CBI team found Rs58,100 in cash on Kumar’s person, and Rs55 lakh in cash concealed below a bed in his Dombivali residence. Another Rs30 lakh cash, concealed in polythene packets, was found in Singh’s Dombivli home.
