The state government had earlier decided to set up 100 fast-track courts to expedite trials of important and sensitive cases.

Sources in the department said minister Varsha Gaikwad, had written to Chavan saying some of these courts should be for trial of women-related offences. There should be at least one special court per district, she had said. Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Akola, Aurangabad, Ahmednagar, Beed, Amravati, Buldhana, Jalgaon, Yavatmal and Kolhapur have fast-track courts.
