Sharma is a key accused in the 2006 alleged fake encounter of alleged Chotta Rajan aide Ram Prasad Gupta alias Lakkhan Bhaiiya.

Sharma, who was arrested on January 8, in his bail application had said that he has been falsely implicated in the case and there is no evidence against him.

He had said that the police were threatened to give statement against him under the pressure of their superiors who have ‘grudge’ against him.

He had also said that no role in the alleged encounter has been directly attributed to him.

However, the Special Investigation Team, investigating the case, opposed his bail application and said that six more police officers are yet to be arrested in the case but they have gone ‘underground’. The team argued that Sharma should not be granted bail as his release would hamper the investigation and will make it difficult to arrest the absconding accused.

The team had also told the court that they have clinching evidence against Sharma.

Accepting the team’s arguments the court rejected his bail application.
