The Santacruz police registered a case of robbery against a domestic help who along with his two accomplices robbed his employer at knifepoint and stole valuables worth Rs 2.19 lakh, on Thursday.
Shilpa Patel (33), resident of Shetu building located on Dattatrey Road in Santacruz (west) was alone in the house at the time of the incident.
Her husband, a diamond merchant was at work and her two children had gone to school when the robbery took place.
Patels had employed their domestic help, Ajay just a week ago without any verification, said Dattatrey Jadhav of Santacruz police station.
On Thursday, Ajay came to work at 12 noon and after 45 minutes told Shilpa that he was going out for some work.
He returned after 45 minutes after which Shilpa went to her children’s room to clean it while Ajay went to the kitchen. “Shilpa was busy in the room and did not notice when Ajay let his two accomplices inside the house,” said Jadhav.
The three men gagged her and asked her for the keys.
Once they got the keys the accused escaped with gold and diamond jewellery, said the police.
“Shilpa managed to free her hands and legs and went to their neighbours. Subsequently, Shilpa's husband Kesarbhai Patel was informed and they approached us,” added Jadhav.
Officials at the Santacruz police station said that the accused must have taken up the job with the intention of robbing the employer.
