The accused has been identified as 28-year-old Sunil Kindo. “On Tuesday, Vishwas Kachle [Kindo’s employer] had instructed Kindo to deliver the water meters at the Sahar cargo area. However, Kindo went missing with the goods,” said a police officer from the MIDC police station.
Kachle became suspicious of Kindo after he realised that the goods had not been delivered and Kindo was unreachable. He lodged a complaint with the MIDC police on Tuesday.
The police detained Kindo’s father for questioning on Friday. After learning about his father's detention, Kindo called the police from an unknown destination, confessed to his crime and directed the police to the truck, which was parked in Thane.
The MIDC police registered a case under section 408 (criminal breach of trust by clerk or servant) against Kindo and are on the lookout for him.
