Fed up with life, wrote teen
The wave of student suicides in the city continues with a class 12 student committing suicide at his Chembur residence on Thursday night.
Vineet Ramchandra More, a science student of Somaiya College in Vidyavihar, hanged himself when his parents and sister were out celebrating his parents’ anniversary.
More left a suicide note behind with a poem saying that he was ‘fed up of life’.
According to the Chembur police, More (18) returned to his home at Reserve Bank of India colony at 3.30pm on Thursday after taking his Maths I preliminary exam and was perfectly normal.
“We went for dinner with Mridula, Vineet’s sister, as he said that wasn’t feeling too well and wanted to prepare for next day’s physics exam. At 10.30pm we returned to find the door locked from inside.
“Despite banging the door, Vineet did not answer. We broke down the door and found him hanging by a bedsheet from the ceiling fan,” said devastated Ramchnadra, who works with the RBI.
“When we got him down he was alive but unconscious. We rushed him to Joy Hospital but since they were slow, we took him to Rajawadi where he was declared dead,” added Ramchandra.
The police have registered a case of suicide.
“The motive behind his suicide is not clear as More’s parents say he was an ideal son and did not show any signs of depression,” said S Raut of Chembur police station.
More’s parents, who are still in shock, said Vineet was extremely positive about life. “Vineet was an introvert but loved playing the guitar. On December 31, after watching 3 Idiots, as a passing comment, he told me ‘how could people end their lives… thank God I am not one of them’,” recollected Ramchandra, Vineet’s father.
