Shaikh (21), a resident of Malwani in Malad (West) and a mass media student at Mittal College, was arrested on Thursday for slashing the throat of his friend and classmate Darshana Panchal (21).

"We recorded the statement of Shaikh's former girlfriend who confirmed that they were having an affair. She said that Panchal had brainwashed her against Shaikh," said Police Inspector A.P. Valzade of Bangur Nagar police station.

Panchal had allegedly brainwashed Shaikh's friends and his girlfriend against him, terming him as violent. Shaikh's girlfriend started avoiding him before snapping all ties two months ago.

Agitated over Panchal's actions, Shaikh decided to take revenge.

On Thursday night, under the pretext of buying a gift for his former girlfriend, took Panchal to a secluded spot behind Interface in Malad (W).

He slashed her several times. However, two beat marshals on duty caught him before he could escape. Shaikh admitted to the crime and has been remanded in police custody until September 2.
