HC reprieve for 3,000 flat owners in ghatkopar

Nearly 3,000 flat-owners in Garodia Nagar in Ghatkopar (East) will soon get five recreational grounds (RGs) – measuring around 20,000 square metres – more than 35 years after Gowardhandas Garodia developed the residential colony as a private layout. HT reports.

The Bombay high court on Tuesday directed the BMC to take possession of the five plots, presently in possession of various parties other than the federation of the flat-owners – Garodia Nagar Welfare Federation of Housing Societies.

The division bench of chief justice Mohit Shah and justice Roshan Dalvi, has, however, directed the civic body not to disturb, as of now, the possession of the remaining three reserved plots that are with the Lions Club of Ghatkopar, Shri Vallabh Seva Samaj and Bhajan Samaj.

The court was hearing a petition filed by Garodia Nagar Welfare Federation of Housing Societies representing nearly 100 co-operative housing societies of flat-owners in 200 buildings in the colony spread over 2.58 lakh square yards.
