A domestic help at Legislative Council deputy chairman Vasant Davkhare’s residence was arrested on charges of theft on Friday.

Poonam Surve (35), a resident of Panchpakhadi, allegedly stole 52 tolas of gold and a video camera from Davkhare’s Naupada house.
Davkhare’s son Niranjan and his family currently reside there.
“We arrested Surve as the family suspects that she may have stolen the jewellery worth Rs 9.5 lakh. The maid, who has been working with them for more than a year, stole the jewellery over a period of two months,” said police inspector (crime) Hemant Sawant.
The family realised about the theft on Thursday evening.
“Niranjan’s younger brother is getting married in November and the family was also making preparations for the Ganesh festival. Niranjan’s wife was cleaning the cupboard when she found that several ornaments from different safes were missing,” said Sawant.
The police are carrying out further investigations to recover the jewellery.
