The accused identified as Mukesh Jha, who sings at restaurants and clubs for a living, was arrested on the charge of abetting the suicide of his wife Mamta and physically and mentally harassing her, the police said.

Mamta, a housewife, jumped to her death from the Crimson Towers building at Lokhandwala Complex early on Tuesday morning. She left behind a suicide note wherein she expressed her unhappiness about her husband’s alleged extramarital affair.

“Mamta’s brother Shankar Kumar Jha who works in Ghaziabad approached us on Wednesday and following his complaint , we have arrested Mukesh,” said Anant Kenjale, senior inspector, Samta Nagar police station, adding that the couple would fight frequently.

“As per the complaint, for the past three months the accused would come home drunk and beat up Mamta. Things took a turn for the worse after Mukesh started receiving calls from a woman who he claimed was his friend,” said an inspector.
