The Governor’s office will send the nomination to Balaram. The previous search committee was dissolved and the VC appointment was delayed by a month.

Acting VC, Chandra Krishnamurthy decided not to preside over the meeting in light of earlier objections that she might apply for the VC’s post. She handed over charge to the dean of the faculty of Fine Arts, Nitin Keny.

The academic council and management council had to choose from six nominations. Two were former directors but the guidelines state the member should be the director of an institute of national repute. Most of the 79 people present at the meeting voted for Balaram.

The governor will nominate the chairperson of the search committee. The third member of the committee will be the principal secretary of higher education.
