When a 13-year-old boy walked into the office of Mumbai police's anti-narcotics cell (ANC) on Wednesday afternoon, the police thought he may have some information that would lead to seizure of drugs.
The boy, however, turned out to be a runaway kid from Indore who had visited the ANC's office in the hope of meeting the cast of CID, a popular crime detective series on a television channel.
Senior police inspector (Azad Maidan unit) Suhas Gokhale said, "The boy asked me if he can meet Abhijeet and Daya uncle (characters in the series). I engaged him in talk while telling him that the characters he was looking for had gone out."
"We contacted his parents and learned that he had run away from his house in Indore and come to city on a train," said Gokhale. The boy has been sent to the children's home in Dongri.
Meanwhile, officials of the channel contacted the police after Gokhale's son, an advertising professional, posted the details about the incident on a social networking site.
"While the intention is not to encourage others to run away, the cast is planning to meet the boy to counsel him against taking any such step in the future. The cast may meet the boy in the presence of his parents when they will arrive in the city in a day or two," said Gokhale.
