According to a relative, Gaikwad and Boricha were courting each other for the last two years. However, Boricha’s parents got her engaged to Umesh Rathod a month back. Her wedding was scheduled to take place on May 6.

Boricha’s relative told HT that the victim’s family had no knowledge of Gaikwad and Boricha’s relationship.

Police said that, on Tuesday, Gaikwad confronted Boricha near the Sales Tax office in Mazgaon. When Boricha refused to call off her wedding, Gaikwad became upset and stabbed her. “He ran away before any onlooker could catch him,” said Dabhade.

Boricha was taken to JJ Hospital with and is out of danger. The Mazagaon court remanded Gaikwad in police custody for seven days.
