According to Anjali Andhale, police inspector, Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), Thane, Sachin Suryavanshi purportedly set his wife Bhavana, 25, ablaze on December 28, 2008, at his Ulhasnagar residence. Bhavana's sister Tina Vijan Bharti, 35, filed a complaint against Sachin at Central police station, Ulhasnagar. The case was being heard in Kalyan sessions court by justice PD Gaikwad, while Chhaya Bhadkamkar was the public prosecutor.
Frustrated with the frequent visits to the court in the last three years, Bharti asked Chhaya the reason why her case was not being expedited. To which, Chhaya reportedly replied that to get that done she would have to shell out at least Rs3 lakh. Of the sum, while her share was only Rs20,000, the remaining amount would be distributed among the police, judge and court clerks, Chhaya alleged.
Bharti approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Thane.
