On Monday, trying to explain the bullet injury on his hand, he said in the special court trying him: “Police thane mein maari goli, tike lagake. Usse dard nahi hota. (I was shot at in the police station after being administered anaesthesia. It doesn’t hurt after that.)”

Special Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, however, said Kasab’s claims and his repeatedly denying all the evidence against him would not hamper the case as there was enough direct and indirect evidence against him.

“Apart from the witnesses, we have produced photographs, CCTV footage and forensic evidence to prove Kasab’s involvement,” he said.

Kasab made the claim after Special Judge M.L. Tahaliyani pointed to the evidence and suggested that he and his slain partner, Abu Ismail, ambushed three senior police officers outside Cama Hospital.

Kasab also denied the testimony of Maruti Phad, who saw the duo trying to open the doors of his car. “There must have been fingerprints left behind had somebody tried to open it,” countered Kasab.

Kasab also claimed he was admitted to Nair Hospital at 11.15 pm on November 26, 2008, nearly an hour-and-a-half before he was captured at Girgaum Chowpatty.

“I was taken there to record my statement,” said the 21-year-old Pakistani, who also disputed the number of injuries he suffered. Doctors who treated him said there were six injuries on his body, whereas Kasab claimed there were only four.

He, however, admitted the bloodstains on some clothes produced before the court were his, claiming his blood was taken and spread on the clothes.
