Let these photos take you on a journey to the old Mumbai

An exhibition of 100-year-old photographs of Mumbai, titled From Mumbai to Bombay, is showcasing 75 photographs.

Mumbai-lovers can travel back in time over the next three weeks, to an era when the Kala Ghoda statue was still at Kala Ghoda and the only traffic at Flora Fountain consisted of horse carriages.

These range from Victoria Terminus with a six-seater horse taxi parked outside to the old Churchgate station, featuring an array of wooden shutters and thatched roofs.

“The works highlight how rapidly Mumbai has changed in the past 100 years,” said gallerist Jagdish Aggarwal of the Dinodia photo gallery at Nariman Point, where the exhibition will be held.

The photos are priced at Rs 5,000 each, which means time-travelling art lovers can even take home a souvenir.

“From Colaba to Vasai, the exhibition displays pictures from various zones of Bombay, featuring typical characteristics such as the tram, horse-taxis and bullock carts,” Aggarwal said.

The images were sourced from renowned Mumbai photograph collectors Dr Jehangir Sorabjee, Ajay Goyal and Anil Dave.
