In his bail application, Mohammed Ajmeri Sheikh said that at the time the girl went missing, he was undergoing medical treatment because some locals had assaulted him for allegedly committing a theft.
“Ajmeri was beaten by the residents of Kasaiwada in Kurla on March 5 and was taken to Nehru Nagar police station, where he remained till the next day,” said his lawyer Prakash Wagh. “Also, the DNA samples taken from the victim don’t match with Ajmeri's sample.”
Ajmeri also said the police quarters are ‘accessible only to the members of the police and their close relatives and no outsiders are allowed to enter the building.’ He said this made it impossible for him to enter the terrace of the building.
The victim went missing on March 5. The police found the body of the victim on the terrace of the police quarters opposite the Nehru Nagar police station in Kurla East on March 8. Ajmeri was arrested on March 9. The court is likely to hear the bail application on May 20.
