Police said that the accused, Sachin Patil, had completed a diploma in electronics two years back, but was yet to find a job. He was supported by his father, Shivajirao Patil, and was suffering from a steadily worsening case of piles, which was not responding to primary treatment.

His father, however, refused to pay for specialist treatment, leading to a heated argument between the two on Sunday.

When Patil’s mother tried to intervene, he pushed her away and attacked his father with a knife, and killed him.

Neighbours caught Sachin and handed him over to the police.

Police produced the accused in Kalyan court which remanded him in police custody for three days.
