According to the police, a 20-year-old youth was crossing road in the wee hours on Sunday when senior inspector of Bandra police station Samad Sheikh intercepted him and asked him to take a flyover. The youth retaliated and fled the spot only to emerge later with a mob.
The mob began pelting stones at police and set on fire four bikes, ransacked a police chowki and shattered windshields of some city buses. Three police officers along with eight State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) personnel and others were injured in the melee, they said.
Police have launched a man hunt for over 100 people who participated in the clash. The arrested accused have been remanded in judicial custody by the holiday magistrate in Bandra.
Ten platoons of SRPF have been deployed in the area and situation is under control, they said.
