More AIDS awareness clubs planned
By the end of this year, Mumbai District AIDS Control Society (MDACS) aims to set up 63 new Red Ribbon Clubs in colleges across the city.
By the end of this year, Mumbai District AIDS Control Society (MDACS) aims to set up 63 new Red Ribbon Clubs in colleges across the city.
These clubs spread awareness on HIV/AIDS among college students.
Currently, there are 87 such clubs in different city colleges.
“The youth of India is a key target population when it comes to being at risk of HIV/AIDS as well as being a medium to control its spread. The purpose is to seek out young people with vulnerabilities and to have teachers impart value-based education to both adolescents and youngsters,” said Dr Shantaram Kudalkar, project director, MDACS.
Each club comprises 30 members including five college students who are trained as educators.
They in turn reach out to 500 more students and community members through trainings, workshops and awareness campaigns on HIV/AIDS.
