With these deaths, 10 farmers have committed suicide in the first 15 days of 2013, due to crippling debts, crop failure and not getting remunerative price for their produce. The cultivation cost has almost doubled this year due to an unusual rise in prices of seeds, fertilisers, pesticides and labour rate.

The figure was 927 last year. Ramrao Shende (35) of Manoli and Sanjay Mahalle (43) of Dorli consumed pesticide while Puroshottam Parsutkar (48) of Maregaon hung himself.
