On Monday, she handled the 12.42 pm Virar local starting from Churchgate.

“She is in the learning stage and is under a senior motorman who is teaching her and giving knowledge of the entire route till Virar,” said a WR motorman on condition of anonymity.

Kumari is presently getting trained on the precise speed of trains, the dangerous curves on tracks, functions of signals and other minute details.

“This is a normal learning process that every motorman has to undergo,” said WR chief PRO, S. Gupta.

Kumari would independently begin running local trains from August once she completes her training.

As a motorwoman, Kumari will have to drive trains in all three shifts and work for irregular and long hours.
