The police recorded the statements of his family members on Thursday, but are still clueless about the reason for the suicide.

Ovhal, his wife, Sushma (30) and children, Sakshi (7) and Sumeet (5), were found hanging from a water pipe on the terrace of their Mulund row house. “The family members were aware of his depression and were planning to take him to a psychiatrist but the did not think it was serious and urgent,” said Police Inspector G. Phadtare of Navghar police station.

Police started probing the depression angle after Ovhal’s friends said he had revealed his suicidal tendencies to them in December. The friends had brought this to his family’s notice.

Sushma’s parents and brother have held Ovhal’s brothers responsible for the incident and asked the police to arrest them. Phadtare said, “They may have made the allegations for emotional reasons. But so far we have not found anything substantial in their allegations.”
