Mumbai: 6-month-old dies on board Indigo flight

A six-month-old boy being taken from Mumbai to Chennai to treat a heart condition died during on an Indigo Airlines flight on Sunday.

The airline crew said parents of Nubaid Fareed Ramzan found that he had stopped breathing after the flight was airborne. The pilot then sought permission from the city's air traffic control to land on priority. Meanwhile, the crew and a medical practitioner tried to revive the infant.

"Nubaid's mother said there were three holes in his heart," said an airlines spokesperson, adding that they family hadn't informed them about the medical condition.

An airport doctor stationed close to the airstrip inspected the child and decl­ared him dead at 12:10pm.

The airport police station at Vile Parle recorded an accidental death report. Doctors at Cooper hospital said the child died of a cardiovascular disease.
