The chargesheet revealed that the accused beat up the woman mercilessly, leaving her with serious injuries on her head, leg, back and neck. They stuffed a cloth in her mouth when she tried to resist and scream for help, it said.

The brutality, which the 19-year-old gangrape survivor and her would-be husband were subjected to by the five accused on July 31 in the Shakti Mill compound, was part of the charge sheet filed by the crime branch on Tuesday.

According to the charge sheet, the accused beat up the woman mercilessly, leaving her with serious injuries on her head, leg, back and neck. They stuffed a cloth in her mouth when she tried to resist and scream for help, it said.

Her companion was also thrashed by the five, and his hands were tied with a dupatta. According to officials, one of the accused picked up a big stone and threatened to kill the man if he raised an alarm.

Before releasing the two, the accused — Mohamed Kasim Hafiz Sheikh alias Kasim Bangali, Salim Ansari, Vijay Jadhav, Ashfaque Shaikh and a minor — allegedly stole the couple’s mobile phones and threatened them with dire consequences if they told anyone about the incident, the charge sheet said.

The two were then taken to the railway tracks and sent in the direction of Mahalaxmi railway station, while the accused headed towards Lower Parel station.

The scared and injured couple fled the city and got married in Chhattisgarh.

But as the survivor had suffered serious injuries on her private parts, she had to get treatment at a hospital there.

According to the police, the accused did not sell or use the mobile phones.

Niket Kaushik, additional commissioner of police, crime, said they had recovered both phones — one from the wife of an accused.
