Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL), which is constructing the city’s first metro line linking Versova, Andheri and Ghatkopar (VAG), has just got a new boss, Bharat Bhushan Modgil.

Modgil, a former Indian Rail-ways officer, replaces KP Mah-eshwari, who has been the face of MMOPL right from its inception, the project came in for criticism for constant delays.

In an emailed reply to a questionnaire from HT, the developer, Reliance Infrastructure (R-Infra) said: “In line with our philosophy of providing enriching growth opportunities to deserving employees, KP Maheswhari, who has been leading Mumbai Metro 1 execution, is being assigned a new role as the head of strategy and business for R-Infra.”

Under the initial agreement between MMRDA and the developer, the VAG corridor was to be ready by February 2011. Numerous deadlines followed, which have so far not been met. In state government circles, the easing out of Maheshwari is seen as the company’s efforts to fix responsibility for the delay in implementation of the project.
