Just days after the civic body admitted to errors in its existing land use (ELU) maps, citizens’ groups have found 283 more mistakes in them, in three wards. This takes the total tally of errors spotted by Mumbaiites to 957.

Just days after the civic body admitted to errors in its existing land use (ELU) maps, citizens’ groups have found 283 more mistakes in them, in three wards. This takes the total tally of errors spotted by Mumbaiites to 957.

Mistakes have been spotted in the K-east, N and R-north wards, which include areas such as Andheri, Vile Parle, Ghatkopar and Dahisar, where real estate is at a premium.

The errors found by Yuva, an NGO, in collaboration with other groups, include a naval materials depot in Ghatkopar marked as residential property and a prominent school, Fatima High School, shown as vacant land.

Dhanraj Khare from Yuva said: “Our studies point to serious lapses that must be rectified. We found that huge tracts of lands have been marked for wrong purposes, something that can make it vulnerable to misuse.”

The ELU survey has classified land use across the city and will form the basis for the new development plan, which dictates the development of amenities and infrastructure for the next 20 years. Mistakes in the ELU will reflect in the new DP.

HT has published a series of reports on mistakes in the ELU survey, after which the civic body extended the deadline for submission of citizens’ suggestions to January 24.
