No schools taller than 30 m

Following recent guidelines issued by the state Urban Development Department, the Mumbai Fire Brigade Department has begun rejecting proposals from educational institutions planning to build structures higher than 30 metres (eight floors).

Following recent guidelines issued by the state Urban Development Department, the Mumbai Fire Brigade Department has begun rejecting proposals from educational institutions planning to build structures higher than 30 metres (eight floors).
The fire department has rejected at least 15 such proposals, in a move to ensure students’ safety.

The guidelines were framed following a directive from the Supreme Court, after 80 children were killed in a fire in a school in Tamil Nadu.
