All Class 10 students will now know the date of their final exams on the first day of school, according to a decision taken by the state education department on Wednesday.

This will be done in the form of an academic calendar that every student will be given at the start of the year. The calendar will give the exact examination date for each subject and also the schedule of all holidays.

“A calendar will be given to every student of Class 10 on the first day. This will help them schedule and prepare for their examinations. We will make sure this takes off and is later extended to other classes,” said state education minister Rajendra Darda.

In the current system, the state boards announce SSC exam dates about two months in advance, leaving students with very little time to prepare. Also, schools will be able to schedule their prelims according to that schedule.

The new rule will be finalised by Darda on Friday in a meeting with the state education board and all the stakeholders involved.

The department is also working on streamlining the procedure in case of paper leaks.

“I have asked the board to make sure that any re-examination that has to be conducted will take place in the same week after the last exam,” Darda said.
