Oil spill: Drowned cop didn't know swimming

A day after Ramesh Tukaram More (45) drowned after he fell off the speedboat while patrolling at the Ghariyal Godi dock near Yellow Gate in the wee hours of Monday, his family and colleagues claimed that he did not know swimming but was sent aboard the patrol boat Indrayni regularly.

A day after Ramesh Tukaram More (45) drowned after he fell off the speedboat while patrolling at the Ghariyal Godi dock near Yellow Gate in the wee hours of Monday, his family and colleagues claimed that he did not know swimming but was sent aboard the patrol boat Indrayni regularly.

But the police said that More knew swimming and had certificates to prove it.
Kaizer Khaleed, deputy commissioner of police (Port Zone) said, “More knew swimming. He had received training by the Indian Navy for swimming and he also had training certificates. We have them to prove it.”

More’s family including his wife Ruchila, son Rahul and daughter Shivani said that he was transferred to the Versova Sagri police station from the Bhoiwada police station seven months ago.

“I am shocked. More was an excellent athlete and enjoyed playing football and hockey. He had won many certificates and trophies for the two sports. He had completed around 24 years of service in the police force,” said More’s close friend, constable Kishore Mohite.
